Angels Must Sign Brian Wilson This Offseason

The dude has been solid since playing for the Dodgers.  He is going to want to go to a team where he can close and the Angels could use him for that role.

Ernasty (8th)

De La Rosa (7th)

 

 

That is some serious shut down action there.

He's stated that he wants to close and stay in SoCal since he lives here. The Angels and Wilson are a perfect match if he takes somewhat of a discount to pitch at home. I'd rather have Wilson who's 30, over someone like Balfour or Benoit who are both over 35.

Totally worth the risk.  This team needs solid bullpen arms and getting a closer like him would be worth it.  It makes the team better.

He ain't gonna close for the Raviners, not with Jansen dominating there.

Frieri is really good when on, BUT he's not in Jansen's class and he has too many blow ups for a closer. The Beard has extensive closing experience, yet will only be 32 in 2014.

This pen seriously needs a leader. The Beard is that man, and WON'T cost a draft pick OR players!

The Beard, Frieri, DDLR, Burnett, Coello, Kohn = good potential pen. And Morin is just half a season away in all likelihood.

What is it with Brian Wilson? He is a decent reliever but he's very much overrated. He also has serious injury concerns. If the Angels are going to sign a closer they should sign Balfour.

He's constantly hitting 94 and throws pitches to either side of the plate well with good movment, and with a 0.89 WHIP and 0.73 ERA in 12.1 innings, he seems to be getting back to where he will need to be in 2014.     

He won't cost any players or draft picks.

 

What's not to like?

And if the Angels sign him, and it does happen, I can see all he wasn't worth the risk talk coming from more than likely the same posters that said to sign him.

Now, if someone else blows that out of the water and offers at least 3 years for at least $10 million/season, that is definately risky.

Yup.  The arguments against getting him are weak at best.

I think they do need a closer. Frieri, Burnett, Kohn, Jepsen, De La Rosa, Coello…is a solid pen. But adding a closer with attitude like Brian Wilson, is not a bad choice. 

 

I think Williams is going to go to a team who will guarantee him a starting spot. I doubt the Angels tender him a contract. I also think he may be a free agent. 

 

Williams started 24 games for the Angels this year. He wants a starting spot. He doesn't want to be the long man. As he began his career at age 21, then really struggled between ages 24-28, and was out of baseball for a time, I have trouble understanding the fact that he is still under club control 10 years after starting his career. I think he's going to be a free agent, and if not, he'll be non-tendered.
