The Official Thread of the 2013 Denver Broncos

The Broncos have had a nasty habit of giving up big plays on defense and special teams and yesterday was no different.  Losing Vickerson for the season a few weeks back was huge and with Wolfe being out that makes them even thinner on the line.  I like some of the young guys they have in the secondary but they're the type that are hard hitting and gamble which can backfire.  The defense definitely needs to step it up come playoffs but I think their biggest threat offensively in NE took a major hit with Gronk tearing his ACL/MCL.  That's not to say the AFC is anywhere close to a given as all the teams currently in the playoffs if the season ended today have shown the ability to put up points.

having started welker every game his year, he has been fairly consistent, but not as valuable as gronk.

he hasn't been 100% either just about the whole season from the reports that I get for fantasy players. he's disappeared quite a few times in games, I always figured injury related and limiting snaps.

There's no denying Gronkowski can and will put up bigger numbers but the loss of Welker is huge for Denver because a slot receiver is Manning's go to guy on 3rd down or when the defense gets pressure on him.  Welker had the most targets from the slot of any receiver in the NFL going into last nights game and they need him back healthy.  As to Welker not being 100% the guy has been probable or questionable most games the last so many years and I don't read too much into it.

Kudos to the bolts as they did everything they needed to - controlled the ball early, made some 3rd down conversions, got to Manning multiple times and the list goes on.  The loss of Vickerson isn't something Denver has shown they can overcome yet.  To be fair though some of Matthews success were on outside runs when the defense just looked flat out beat.  That offsides on the defense when it was 4th and 5 in the 4th, they were down by 7 and had SD I think inside their own 30 is inexcusable.
