Angels Official Website: Report: After vote, Halos may drop 'of Anaheim'

The Anaheim City Council will vote Tuesday on whether to enter lease negotiations with the Angels that could keep the team in the city through 2057 and allow them to drop the "of Anaheim" part of their name, according to a Friday report by the Los Angeles Times.

Hope this one passes, it looks like the right way to go, give the lease and development rights to Arte for 66 years, and let him pay for the improvements.  I think he would do a far better improvement job than the city could ever do.

I was born in La Canada, spent 4th grade in Anaheim, and 6th grade through high school in San Dimas. I certainly understand LA, LA area, LA County, and Orange County. Having lived 27 years since high school in Utah, Ireland, Florida, and now the last 9 in Michigan, I also understand that most of the rest of the world does not understand those distinctions. I met a family in Ireland that was going to take a holiday (vacation in our lingo) to Vancouver, Canada and thought while they were out there for a week or so, that they might take a drive down to see Los Angeles. 

 

My point is that to most outside of California, that big blob of metro they see on the map from San Diego to Santa Barbara is LA. Kind of like the Jets don't play in New York, the city or even the state.

Not living in CA, Anaheim seems like part of LA - its certainly part of the metropolitan area. Would it be accurate to say that it is to LA what something like Newark is to New York? But unlike Newark, Anaheim is in the same state as LA and isn't separated by a river.

 

My preference is California Angels. I don't know why they don't go back to that.

According to Arte, Anaheim is  part of the LA Metroplex.
