Ron is actually coaching on some very good teams and is beloved.

 

I'll always love scioscia but the game might have passed him by.

Yup, if it was between the two I would have picked Ron.

Texas was solid during his time there working with Daniels and he’s been entrenched on one of baseball‘s better teams for a while. Given Perry’s time in Atlanta (and indirectly through their Texas ties) maybe it means the manager and the FO will be working together better than previous tandems. 

I do think it helps in recruiting talent too, both on the field and off, in a way a rookie manager would not have had.
