Not super excited about this. Only two years though, both of which will likely be developmental years.  Hopefully he can bring some structure and preparation

Love to be surprised, but this feels like a neutral move.

Given the state of the team, though, why would any of the top candidates really want to come here?

If nothing else, the club is not tied into a long term contract if it doesn't work out.

Sorry but sexual assault allegations and cocaine use should've disqualified him from this job. He's the one guy I didn't want.

If they wanted the experience and the authority of a veteran manager, they should've hired Scioscia.

If sexual assault and cocaine were determining and qualifying factors, we wouldn't have a single politician in DC.

Because all of the potentials are Boomers and Gen X'ers.  Folks that still like to challenge themselves and not have the winning just handed to them.

So if that's true, why were the only candidates rumored to be on the list either near the end of their careers (Washington, Showalter) or neophytes (Hunter, Erstad, etc.)?  It sounds like Counsell didn't really give them the time of day.

why the hell do people keep saying this nonsense!? It's the same thing with free agents....it takes two parties to agree to a contract. If he wanted the job he would have reached out. He didn't...therefore he wasn't hired.

Washington worked without incident for Atlanta for 8 years. For god's sake, we had someone with far more sexual assault allegations in the white house for 4 years. Get over the pretend outrage.

Obviously those other guys were taking advice from their Millennial and Gen Z kids.

Right, well, he hasn't had a managers job since resigning from Texas in 2014. I also dont like his age, as at 72, he needs a young guy (which will probably be Montgomery) to be his bench coach and future manager. A 2 year deal also sucks.

This article paints a rosy picture of him, but we'll see...I guess.

But you're good with Scioscia who is 65 and hasn't managed at any capacity in the MLB since 2018?
