Buck Showalter interested in Angels managerial job

So if Buck actually wants the Angels job does it tell us that the belief that no one would want the job because of Arte and it being the Perry’s last year is a little overblown?
Obviously we could get a first time manager, but Showalter is right behind the Dusty, Bochy type of guys as far as being a respected “baseball” guy.

Probably some of that and some of Buck wanting a managerial job.

Showalter was just fired for sucking and he's probably looking to rebound.

If I was Buck, I'd be looking for a better opportunity

He's likely thinking that sunny California is preferable to the opportunities elsewhere. Plus there's not many other jobs where there's only 2 guys he would have to impress & where, walking in, he enters as the most knowledgeable one in the room.

At this point, you have to stop expecting guys like Counsell or Melvin to want to come here. We're going to be successful either with a Sosh (first time manager and well respected) or an older guy. There isn't any in between. But I'd take a guy with a track record, even a spotty one. That's also why Buck probably wants the job--he knows not many teams would hire an also-ran. It's more about the staff around him, and the player development program.

Good news is, 8 days in, and still no Ray Montgomery hired as mgr News yet.

Encouraging, need an experienced guy that will work on the fundamentals (sorely needed), while embracing just enough of the analytics to not be left behind.

Agree 100%. Also would like to add the need for someone who knows how to manage a bullpen (Of course some reliable arms will need to be added).

Bullpen management has been a problem with this team since Scioscia left.

different situation this year. Back then, Arte let Eppler hire his pick. When that went bad, Arte made the pick. This season will be more complicated.

Unless Arte makes the pick again, which I wouldn’t rule out.
