"Dec. 2: Ohtani negotiations entering 'final stretch' (report)
The Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes may conclude very soon.

According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, a "small group" of teams is expected to meet with Ohtani and his representatives in Los Angeles this weekend. Industry sources told Nicholson-Smith that negotiations with the two-time MVP are entering their "final stretch."

The exact identity of those teams is not known, but Nicholson-Smith reports that the Dodgers are seen as "the clear leading suitor" for Ohtani. The Blue Jays and Cubs are believed to be in that small group, per Nicholson-Smith, while the Giants and Angels "haven't been ruled out."

Those are the same five clubs that ESPN's Jeff Passan (subscription required) and MLB Network insider Jon Heyman recently reported were still vying for Ohtani.

"Ohtani’s decision will create huge ripple effects in the industry and it now appears that decision could be coming soon," Nicholson-Smith wrote."

Yeah. Probably at the Winter Meetings. Would not surprise me if Manfred told teams that he wants them to hold off announcing signings until the WM's. Would give MLB tv a big ratings boost.

Japanese culture mandates that important announcements are best saved to honor commemorative holidays.  The next significant holiday comes on Dec.14 with the Ako Gishiasi (where they honor the 47 Samuari).

Pretty good chance that the Ako Gishiasi will provide the occasion for the Ohtani announcement.

It's a good thing YouTube TV and the MLB Network separated a year ago. I can't watch a GD thing during the winter meetings on their network.

Fuck em.. I'm going to post up at the bar in Opryland for Mon-Wednesday. I took those days off a few months back.

#17 is filled.

On December 2nd (3rd in JST), Kanta Maeda (Tigers) was interviewed on Japan's Sports TV Show.  He said that Ohtani's destination would be decided in about five days.

On November 3rd, the day before the Winter Meetings, Washington, Minassian, and other team officials entered the venue.

I hate to say it but more and more looks like Dodgers. They will also trade for a top pitcher. I just hope it is soon so Angel's can decide what direction they will go in.

Why do you think direction hasn’t been decided?  They brought in Washington to compete now. They aren’t changing to your preferred direction based on Ohtani.
