Close losses

Recommended Posts

Is there a site that compiles how many runs have been scored in our losses vs. the other team's runs in those wins? I'd be surprised if we weren't in the top five in close losses. I know a loss is a loss but that also shows fortitude.

20 losses by 3 or more runs!

2 or less to me are winnable games. You can manufacture a run here or there. But, they don't whether it's concern regarding launch angle or hitting fly balls. They also have a penchant for widening the zone when down in the count and having bad at bats or not battling to work the count. They consistently leave runners on base in the mid and late innings during the game.

Not only runners on base, but they consistently leave RISP no matter what inning it is.

This has got to be the most glaring fundamentally flawed aspect of the team, not manufacturing runs.

To have runners on 2nd an 3rd with nobody out and not score a run is just, terminal to a teams success, and it's why we lose the close ones.

I think its coaching too...I can't understand why they aren't better at it, especially in two strike counts, just putting the ball in play as opposed to striking out, or grounding into double plays.

It’s a league wide problem.  Fletcher posted that a runner on 3rd and less than two outs the runner scores about 50% of the time and the Angels were at 49.5% or something along those lines.

The Angels are ranked 10th lowest in leaving runners in scoring position per game.

Tenth best offensive WPA in MLB too..

Like always people tend to focus on the times they fail.

The issue is and has been poor SP that far too often has failed to keep them in games.

How can the situational hitting or lack there of not be at least somewhat of a coaching issue? Either the players are being told to put the ball in play hit behind the runner etc and ignoring it and swinging for the fences or they’re not being coached to manufacture runs. If they’re ignoring the coaching why isn’t our self-proclaimed “red ass” coach confronting them?
