Seven solo home runs in seven separate innings

I’m not understanding the hype on this. The offense is…bad because they were solo? That’s…good hitting. It’s bad coincidence, which is the hallmark of this season. Ohtani’s 2nd for instance. Ward hits the ball 18 inches right or left and it’s a 3 run Hr, not a DP. To me it’s bad pitching and no different than the Phillies game or the Royals game on June 21.

Im actually glad about the Ward-Walsh-Adell-Moniak homers. Junk melted down, that’s why we lost. I would’ve sold my birthright for 7 runs in June.

This is true. I don’t know what’s happening this season but we must have really pissed off the baseball gods.

One of the strangest games you'll see. But allowing eight runs is usually a formula for losing, regardless.

As Frankie Frisch lamented around ninety years ago,  "oh those bases on balls, they'll kill you every time."

Look at it from the A's side. Once they were up 6 - 2 their pitchers were in cruise control. They knew the Angels have trouble generating offense, so they played percentages to reduce the chance of a big inning.

That meant throwing some fat pitches over the plate rather than nibble and allow walks or cheap hits. The likelihoods was that Angel hitters would get themselves out even facing average stuff.  This time, against all odds, some unlikely Angels connected for homers. Ohtani of course is always a long ball risk. But with no men on each time and a lead their pitchers had breathing room.

As the score got closer the game turned more traditional but the only real threat was Ohtani. Ironic they actually had a man on base and a chance to walk off a win when Ohtani swung at the first pitch. It also was a hittable pitch, but he just missed it.

Actually when you think about it, this was a pretty sad way to lose. An indictment about their approach to hitting. All or nothing.
