I haven't felt this grim about the Angels in several years, so even the optimist in me doesn't really believe much anymore this year, but, I will say that any team that has two (technically three since Shohei counts twice) players like Ohtani and Trout has a really strong floor to build on if those two take off. 

Adell, Marsh, and Detmers have enough potential that if any one or combo of them found their stride, things could shift quickly. They've had a tough schedule of late. There are more playoff spots. Walsh has underperformed, the bullpen shouldn't be this bad, Suarez has started coming around, Fletcher, Rengifo and Stefanic might take away more of the playing time Velazquez and Wade had...they'd need a lot to break right but the talent is there. 

If Minasian is able to turn Syndergaard into an MLB-ready piece or two (I saw one idea floated of sending him to the Mets for Dominic Smith who isn't a savior but if he found his stroke could contribute) I guess there's a chance they go on a run. They played alright last year after the deadline.
