How do we fix this realistically?

This notion that they could just vibe their way to the postseason and that somehow that was the issue holding the team back was pie in the sky campfire BS.

This team currently has all of 4 players hitting at even league average numbers.  FOUR.  The entire active roster only has five, and one of those has less than 10 PAs.  Hilariously Joe Adell's 94 OPS+ would be the 5th best hitter on the team if he was on the active roster.

I'm okay with Marsh getting beat up while he breaks in.  I'm glad they are finally giving Rengifo everyday at bats, he's been looking better the more he's played.   Both those guys at least bring something of value beyond being a good late inning pinch runner.  Too much time and energy was wasted on finding niche types given the uncertainty at actual starting spots.  Spending as much as they did on the pen given what history tells us about that strategy while ignoring the holes up the middle and the need for a fail-safe option in the OF was just stupid.  If you really look at the performances, the no-names they already had in the pen have arguably been as productive.  I do however believe Loup would be doing better were he being used in more defined left'/left role but that just demands asking why they spent so much on a lefty specialist.

FOUR players on a 25 man roster playing at league average or better... And one of them has missed like 20-25 games.  Fix THAT, worry less about whether or not they will sing Kumbaya... winning has a hell of an impact on culture.

This is a defining point.

The Dodgers have 7 starters with a OPS+ over 100 plus Trayce Thompson at 150 covering for Betts and Turner at 95.

The Yankees have 8 starters with an OPS+ over 100.

Based on how well the return has been on generational talent in mlb I think we have our answer.

This video is very telling.  I kinda agree that Ohtani is going to want to be a Free Agent.  I mean MLB made a new rule just for him.  There is no way he signs an extension unless it's a ridiculous amount.  We trade him next year and get what we can.

If he is not coming back trade this off season. Would get better offer with more teams involved. You cannot let him walk and get nothing.

You have never said this before.  Thanks for the keen insight and fresh take.

Yes, that's what I meant.  This offseason, not next.
