It’s Mike Trout and friends responsibility to make the playoffs

Recommended Posts

Trout is back tonight.  Anthony Rendon is back.  Shohei Ohtani is getting what he wants.  These guys didn’t play or played like shit and that’s why the Angels lost 14 games in a row and flushed the good start they got off to down the fucking toilet.  Not making the playoffs is these guys problem.  The blame is squarely on them if they don’t do it.  Theres 100 plus games left.  There’s extra playoff slots.  They control their destiny.  There’s enough on this team.  Ward will be back. Walsh is solid Stassi is solid.  There’s optimism for Marsh, Adell, and Rengifo.  I’ll give a shit about other issues when Mike Trout isn’t batting .140 or whatever.  When Anthony Rendon isn't slugging .395 on a 35 million a year contract.

alright that’s the end of the rant.  Let’s fucking go.

The first half Ohtani last year looks like an aberation rather than the norm. He was in an elite zone where he was physically and mentally confident and giving peak performance results. Lots of books in sports psychology about 'being in the zone.' Also anecdotes from Ted Williams and other greats.

The damn all star game took him out of that zone. Ultra high profile there, and unreal expectations. My speculation is that he lost some of that instinctual  and intuitive mindset and became more self conscious  and self critical after the all star experience. Some diminishment of self confidence.

Let's face it. He has the all around high end skills to always be above average. But expectations can't revert back to last seasons first half. And maybe there are other team factors and career goals that may be affecting his performance. He can be great any given game, but consistently great is elusive.

Yes, it was definitely his lack of self confidence that caused him to fall off from his three month pace as the best hitter in the league.

In his first 11 games after the ASG, he had an OPS of 1.031

Right now, I'll forking take an end to a 6 season losing streak.  14 L game streak teams don't deserve playoffs.

Sure, just like teams that only win 19 of their first 50 games don't deserve the playoffs.  ..........Oh wait, in 2019 they won the World Series.
