I guess that's one way of doing it.  Everyone plays.  No one get hurt.

Well, it's time for moves now.

Toronto Maple Leafs Acquire Ryan O’Reilly In Three-Team Trade

Quote

In the deal, Toronto has acquired St. Louis’ captain, Ryan O’Reilly, veteran forward Noel Acciari, and prospect Josh Pillar.

St. Louis has received Mikhail Abramov, Adam Gaudette, Toronto’s 2023 first-round pick, Ottawa’s 2023 third-round pick, and Toronto’s 2024 second-round pick.

Minnesota received Toronto’s fourth-round pick in 2025.

As part of the deal, St. Louis will retain 50% of O’Reilly’s salary, while Minnesota will retain 25% of the cap hit. Both O’Reilly and Acciari are set to hit unrestricted free agency at year’s end.

I'm happy to see this because it means the Avs can't make that trade, not that they would but you never know

Well, you don't need to face them till they get past the second round.  And even then they will have to get all the way to the finals.

But a team like Boston, Carolina, Jersey, Rangers, and other teams in the East.  That could not have been good news that Toronto pushed all their chips in.

It's pretty obvious that if they don't get out of the first round this year then Dubai is gone and that team gets blown up. I fully understand them pushing in the chips. It's O'Reilly specifically I was referring to for the Avs. I'm still thinking they'll do something nobody is talking about. They're really good at keeping secrets

NHL Trade Rumors: Timo Meier Targeted by Blues amid Devils, Hurricanes Deadline Links

Interesting rumor.  And St Louis has the trade capital to make it work now.  Not sure how they are going to make it work cap wise with Kyrou and Thomas getting huge raises next season.  But it would be a solid long term add, if they get the extension done.

Man the Coyotes continue to be one stupid organization.

Vegas Golden Knights Acquire Dysin Mayo

Quote

The Vegas Golden Knights have added some defensive depth, acquiring Dysin Mayo from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a 2023 fifth-round pick and the contract of de facto retired defenseman Shea Weber.

Quote

Shedding Weber’s contract, which was due at a $7.86MM cap hit through 2026, makes maneuvering the offseason salary cap much easier for Vegas as they look to build some long-term financial stability.

Quote

PuckPedia notes that the Coyotes only owe Weber under $3MM in actual money for the remainder of the contract. Acquiring the deal also aids Arizona in reaching the salary cap floor, as they still have just $52.8MM in cap charges next season.

Minnesota got a 4th round pick just to take one year of O'Reilly's $1.875 million cap hit.

Much needed defensive depth. Injuries to defensemen were largely behind the nosedive that the Knights took before the all star break. Still don't know when Mark Stone will be back, but last night's OT loss at Chicago notwithstanding, VGK has been playing like they can since the ASB.

Oh, don't get me wrong.  Brilliant move by the VGK.

Might be a good time to be a Duck in the middle of a rebuild.  That big jump in salary cap that was expected and already paid for by some teams may not come.

Snapshots: Coyotes, Beckman, Johansson, Regional Rights

Quote

With nearly half the league having their regional rights in question, it’s quite possible this could materially affect the salary cap moving forward.
