What have the Angels done well this year?

I think, if anything, they've really tried to improve the starting pitching. I think Minasian/Maddon has done a lot of juggling in this area to try to better the team. Heaney was traded, Canning sent down and CRod, Detmers, and Sandoval joined the rotation. They also ousted Bundy and Quintana after their struggles. I feel really good about this direction and I think, with hopefully some good fortune with health, that we'll be in the playoff hunt next season.

Dont get me wrong, I agree with all you said but the real answer to your question is that they have improved at kicking us in the balls better. The kick is much more accurate, doesnt nick the side of the leg. Nope directly on target. They have what should be a top 3 offense but NO everyone gets hurt. Feel that kick? Every pitcher struggles and it takes 3 months for anyone to start showing promise. Once a pitcher pitches well, Maddon takes him out. I cant count, how many kicks is that?

I know most on here are disappointed. And maybe im just too low standard. But if you knew game 1 that bubdy was going to suck, as was Quintana, we would have thrown in the towel 

Oh, and then we mention trout and rendon would basically miss the year?

I think the fact that with all that, theyre still a decent team is a huge step forward.

Id be leary expecting shohei to repeat next year. But with trout and rendon healfhy (if there is such a thing) im not too worried.

If they bring in 2 reliable pen guys, and the SP continues to build, I think were about to take a big step forward

Looking at MLB team statistics so far in ‘21, the Angels are top 5 in Hits and 2Bs…that is all. Not much good…except Ohtani.

They've done a nice job of hitting 9th inning grand slams off all star relievers

Slowly and modestly they've stabilized into a respectable team. Despite missing Trout and Rendon. 

Not one of the better teams, but not one of the low end ones either.

Jo Adell has made big leaps with his approach and defense which I will give some credit to the org's approach with him.

I give Maddon credit for playing with the lineup. Many managers would have left Upton in one of the power slots, but he led him off. Let Fletcher bat ninth. This year must have been a major challenge for him.

Did not sell off the farm, and put a strong emphasis on drafting pitchers.

They would be within two games of a playoff spot with Trout in there.

Although being 13-28 against the three division teams above them, turns my stomach, especially when one considers they have held their own against the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, White Sox and Blue Jays with a combined  15 -12 against them.
