yeah - this is a weak spot. cannot understand this signing. If Maddon wants an assistant coach from his Chicago days -- then hire Fowler as a coach.

I really enjoyed watching Simmons play SS for us - he was great - was sad to see him go - was even sadder to later learn about the demon and mental health issues he was dealing with - the guy was always top notch with us. I just cannot find it in myself to say anything negative about him and his play here.

After that Fletcher extension, every single middle infielder in the system (Jeremiah Jackson, Luis Rengifo, Franklin Barreto, Livan Soto, Arol Vera, etc...) should probably do everything they can to get VERY good at SS. Because that's the only avenue to playing time. They aren't going to displace Trout, Adell, Marsh or Adams in the OF. 

And with Iglesias playing SS at that elite level... That might be tough too.
