Jeff Locke was the only guy from my high school to ever make the majors.

Which is saying something because it's fucking NH.

My guy has a higher career WAR than yours!  Woo-hoo!

Basketball (Malcolm Brogdon) and football (Darius Slayton, Kalif Raymond), we've made a little more of an impact, even with limited numbers of players making it.

I know people hate him, but Suarez looked really good.  Made some guys look ugly.  Stuff was well located and sharp.

I still have some hope for him. He was on some top 100 lists a couple years ago and he was clearly rushed to the majors. Also, he had to deal with a non-MLB caliber pitching coach in Doug White in 2019.

I think that 2019 may have shattered his confidence. Hopefully today's outing helps him build some confidence.

I can tell those are all black guys.

We don't have them here.

Actually there's a shocking amount of NBA players from my hometown. They went to the prep school, though.

Most famous is Will Barton.

When I was there, there were very few black kids. Off the top of my head, I think there was only 1 in my graduating class out of around 85.  These days, the school has grown and the sports programs (which have always been solid) are top-notch. It's become the top Christian school in the metro Atlanta area for the children of pro athletes and celebrities who live in the area.

He's been 23 all of two months and shouldn't have been called up.  But yes, Angel fans have already written him off.

I haven't, but he doesn't really excite me too much. He's like a lefthanded Barria without the numbers.

Still young. Could end up being a 4-5 guy.

Suarez comes in behind Detmers, Rodriguez, and Sandoval on the depth chart, IMO.  But he did a great job today.

I see our depth as Barria, Sandoval, Suarez, and (ugh) Peters. All have faced MLB hitters before.

Rodriguez and Detmers could certainly be a part of that very soon, though.

Barria's ball danced and he located decently. Suarez showed what I think he's ultimately capable of being, which is a shut down multiple inning reliever. He should be decent once through the order in lower leverage situations. He's struggled with two outs for whatever reason.

He is very young and rushed to majors. Today pitching against minor league players. He does add depth and who knows next could find a spot on staff.

I appreciated Gubi's story "remembering" that since this is the Angels' 60th anniversary (even though it's technically the 61st...), that 10 years ago was their *50th* anniversary.  Gotta love that insight.  That's why they pay him the big bucks.

He gets extra pay for Gubi Tuesdays

He was a top 100 guy as a 20 or 21 year old -- went up three levels got thrown to the wolves and then there was whatever the hell last year was.   He should have been in AA at the highest when he made his debut.

There is more there than we have seen, he just needs to get back to work learning how to pitch.  They keep yapping about his struggles with two outs -- that's the sort of crap guys work out in the higher minors.

Well, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, there were 4 pitchers listed ahead of Detmers and Rodriguez to pitch after Barria, so it's not entirely surprising.  Disappointing for sure, though.

On the bright side have something to look forward to on Monday.

If Peters makes a start for us this year, something has gone horribly wrong.  Which, you know as Angel fans, we are sorta used to seeing/expecting by now 😞

But that aside, I agree with the above ranking, which makes Peters 10th in line.  I'd like to think that Minasian could find someone off the scrap heap before he pivots to Peters, though.

I am still hopeful for Suarez.  It looked like he was able to locate enough pitches in the strike zone which helped his other pitches that had  enough movement to finish outside the zone.

I try really hard to be the voice of reason, but I see a guy with meh stuff that has to have pinpoint control to have success which he hasn’t shown the ability to do.   I obviously would love for him to find it but he hasn’t impressed me at all.

personally feel like Suarez stuff is better than Barria.  Especially his breaking ball.  It's more of a strikeout pitch whereas Barria's breaking ball is more of an off speed he can throw for a strike or induce weak contact with but lacks the depth to make it an out pitch.  Suarez fastball is also a bit better.
