I like the health care I receive here and the lower taxes. Had I moved to England 10 years ago I would probably died of bladder cancer because of their abysmally slow referral system.

I'll need this fact-checked by @WicketMaiden. Do people regularly die in the UK while on waiting lists?

Either that, or the bland food would starve you.  It's amazing that a nation around for so long, isn't known at all for their food.

I've already done that research. The mortality rates in England are significantly higher regarding Bladder cancer. The main cause is lack of detection and then the slow moving referral system that allows time for the disease to spread. They are also shit when it comes to joint and hip replacement for the elderly, offering canes over cures.

They should be more like that hotbed of delicious cuisine, Egypt.

I don't know about outcomes, but under the NHS charter you are guaranteed to see a cancer specialist within two weeks if your doctor suspects that you have cancer, and then you are guaranteed to begin treatment within 31 days of a confirmed diagnosis. No idea if that's an unreasonable delay or how that may impact long term outcomes. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

We also have private healthcare, so the wealthy tend to use the NHS for immediate care, emergency stuff, cheap meds, day to day doctoring etc, and go private for procedures.

In a worrying trend, the NHS contract out hip replacements and similar type operations to Turkey and India. Hmmm.

The low detection rates are because British men are notoriously reluctant to raise medical issues and tend to roll with a "it'll be alright", "don't make a fuss", "it's probably nothing", "lots worse off than me", type mentality.

I know two people in the U.S. with two different insurances, two different types of cancer, and it took months before they could get treatment because they were waiting for appointments and test results.
