So we are doing structure protection in the Forest Falls/Mountain Home Village area off Highway 38.  The fire jumped Highway 38 yesterday and is making a run north towards Angeles Oaks.  As far as Mentone, I’m not sure how far South it’s going because we are not on that branch of the fire.  I’d suspect since Mentone is flatter, they would be able to make a stop on that branch pretty easily.  Yesterday, we were battling the wind as well as topography.  Today, there is significantly less wind which should help.

I hope your daughter is safe and her property survived.

Been following this fire closely since I live in Arrowhead, so unfortunate it couldn't be stopped at the 38 near Forest Falls.  Sounds like last night it spilled over the ridge near Angelus Oaks and they are expecting it to run up to the 38 again further north.  Seems like this could get real bad if it gets established north of the 38 toward Big Bear or into the Santa Ana River drainage toward Running Springs.

Angwin is where I went to college. The school is safe so far. The alumni director sent out an email today about it. A lot of homes have been lost in this one, including homes of friends of mine, as well as an Adventist Elementary School (part of it) and a preschool. This one has been a beast.

The Bosch Baha'i School in northern California (near Santa Cruz) sustained substantial damage. Several structures were a total loss, including the cabins where the students stayed. The National Spiritual Assembly has sent out periodic messages informing us of the status. All staff and students were evacuated some time ago.

Fire approaching Irvine and evacuation orders issued for area between Bake and Jamboree:

Obviously the winds are a major issue and hopefully they die out sooner rather than later.

A coworker of mine lives in that area and had to evacuate.

Just drove towards Downtown LA.  There is a nasty brown smoke all over to the East.  Which doesn't make sense, because it's clear blue skies above me.  And the wind is blowing to the south.  I'm also seeing ash on the ground.  Is it the smoke from way up north?
