To me, it seemed like he wanted to interact with the fans more than the reporter.  And the reporters constant questions was the one that made him go for cover.  

But it did seem odd that a bunch of baseballs were suddenly readily available for him to sign.  Makes me wonder if the reporter knew that Cole stops and signs for fans, so he got a bunch of people off the streets, gave them baseballs, and said ask this guy to sign them.  That way he could ambush and ask questions.

i'm always curious at how many fans show up at things like this. i'm sure it's not specifically announced and yet there they are, baseballs ad sharpies in hand, as if they knew today was the day. it's like people who wait outside hollywood restaurants and just happen to have on hand 8x10 color photos of kim kardashian and mickey rourke, who just happen to be inside eating.
