Its simple really, you have 2-3 guys that are close to each other, they are going to go for the guy on the better/winning team.

This gives me hope, but, DeGrom had a larger gap between him and the others that Trout has to Bregman for example.

 

To be clear though i think he should get it, i just feel like the writers are factoring in more than we are as fans or more than they probably should.

If they were giving Trout a pass on being on a bad team, Trout would be going for his 5th MVP award right now.

I feel the stigma of voting for the guy on a non-playoff team isn't nearly as prevalent as it was just a few years ago. The biggest thing that'll hurt him is missing those last few weeks of the season while Bregman was on fire. Since voting takes place just before the postseason that would have been fresh in their minds.

Didn't hurt Andre Dawson in 1987, winning NL MVP for the last place in NL East Cubs.

I think Ken Rosenthal say he had an AL MVP vote.  He pointed out this morning that missed time by Trout and Bellinger wouldn't really be a discussion had they missed time earlier in the season.

Rosenthal wrote an article a week after Trout got injured saying he should be a lock.

A good point by the panel on the MLBNetwork noted that while Bregman & Trout's numbers are super close, Trout had to face better pitching in Verlander/Cole/Greinke/Miley while Bregman feasted on the Angels starting pitching & in addition to that, sorry but I have to add -- banging trash cans & whistles.

My argument for Trout though, is him missing the final 20 some-odd games of the season had no impact on the Angels. So even if he had played those games, the Angels still miss the playoffs by a lot. Same goes for Bregman. Him NOT missing the final 20 games had no impact on the Astros. They were winning the division regardless.
