Should the Angels add Dave Dombrowski to the organization?

He should be Eppler’s boss.

God shut the fu*ck up.

As to the original question.  Yes.  The Angels should add as many good baseball people as possible.  They should absolutely add him if it’s a possibility.  I do wonder whether the Angels management structure is dated.

With all due respect he has much more experience than Eppler. I’ve said many times that Arte should’ve hired a president of baseball operations and let that guy hire a GM and Manager. Arte and Carpino aren’t qualified to do that. But here we are...

And it’s Epplers front office genius. You think they should blow it up now for Dombrowski ? Eppler deserves this off season.  If they can bring in Dombrowski to play some role then great.  But shit canning Eppler now is a step back for the organization.  It signals total failure and a retreat.  Everyone is frustrated.  But the Angels aren’t that far off.  Eppler should get this winter at least.  Everyone knows the clock is ticking and indefinite failure isn’t going to work.  Now is not the time to pull the plug on what Eppler is doing.

The easy answer is no, the Angels should not hire Dombroski.  He seems to be the guy who guts the farm to give a team a short window to succeed. He’s a more successful version of Dipoto.   Unless I’m mistaken about him then it’s a hard pass from me.

To take over as GM I agree.  But I think the Angels could definitley benefit from his close exposure to the Red Sox system.  Specifically the data stuff and the people he is connected with.  Dombrowski I think probably also brings good experience with major league talent assessment.  Or at least the systems that are good at it.

This is exactly what he has become...

Dude was awesome back when he first came to prominence as team builder as part of the Expos braintrust that included Stoneman.  In Miami he basically created their system....   The later half of his tenure In Detroit he started chasing the wins and became Pat Gillick redux.

All that being said, Dombrowski was always one of my favorites, I find it hard to believe he couldn't change course and go back into builder mode.

No. He's lucked into success. Stradling has it correct: He's a slightly less destructive version of Dipoto. He's exactly the last thing we need right now.

No dude..   He was at one time hand picked by Bill Stoneman to be the GM of the Expos.   He was a big part of what was easily the best scouting department in MLB for a good decade.

He's definitely been willing to move guys to succeed in recent years but he's also put together winners.   Ultimately I think his FA mistakes are what got him fired.   That trio of Price, Sale, and Eovaldi are hard to swallow.

Drombosky has run the Red Sox payroll to the highest in baseball for the last two season and never dipped below 3rd in his tenure.

And you're the jackass that bitches about Pujols salary and how great the A's are running at a bare minimum payroll.

I think it is maybe a little silly to assume someone like Dombrowski would behave the same way in every job at every team.  Clearly an owner of a team that just wants to get to a World Series would hire him.

The question with the Angels is could Dombrowski execute the Angel plan to build a consistent winner?

The guy is no idiot.  It’s a good bet he could be very successful here.  But unless Arte is unhappy with Eppler, there isn’t much point in considering it.
