Totally understand why...just seeing why folks might have more justifiable reason to be bummed about Mejia being DFAed than Puello.

Fair enough.

“It’s too bad the Angels had to do this” is an OK response, although probably still an overreaction because he’s a guy with enough track record that he’s probably not really that valuable (like Puello).

The Angels were wrong to do this,” is an ill-informed reaction.

Cesar Puello

This isn't really a good comparison Jeff because this team needs pitching badly and Mejia has some good stuff from the left side and is younger than someone like Cahill who really has no business being on a major league roster.

DFAing Cahill and keeping Mejia really wasn’t an option because Cahill could pitch 2 innings on Friday and Mejia couldn’t pitch at all for 2 days. They probably also needed to have Cahill around for Saturday.

If you’re just giving up and forfeiting games, then sure, you can do that.

Not to mention if Cahill has no business being on an MLB roster then I’d assume a guy with a higher ERA shouldn’t be either.

Yeah, and if Cahill had been released by some other team and just showed up 2 weeks ago, he has a 2.57 ERA and 9 Ks in his last 7 innings, so people would be all excited to keep him (ignoring the body of work that got him released).

Then I guess Heaney, Suarez and Canning shouldn't be on a major league roster either.

Cahill sucks dude. You know it. Mejia at least has some potential, like Heaney, Suarez and Canning.

Tim Collins, a way better lefty reliever than Mejia, just cleared waivers, by the way.

These guys just aren’t that hard to find.

Yup. They might be able to sneak him through - a lot of arms on waivers right now and some folks will also be displaced following the deadline.

Mejia is a slot machine that somebody else wasted $100 on, and then you slid in there right after they left and won $40.

You can keep playing the slot and might squeeze a few more bucks out of it but eventually you will be the dude walking away $100 lighter.

You are literally the only one that thinks he has potential Chuck.  He has a career WHIP over 1.5.  He has a  career ERA over 4.50 out of the pen.  This year he is allowing 9 hits and 6 walks per 9.  Cahill sucks, but Mejia has been worse.  You are falling victim to recency  bias.

You have to dig a little deeper, Strad. Mejia was moved to the pen in AAA and didn't allow a run in 7 innings, striking out 10 and allowing just 1 walk.

Mejia also has a career 3.23 ERA in the minors across 120 starts, 143 appearances. The guy touches mid 90's and has good secondary pitches and throws from the left side, and he's just 26 years old. These types don't grow on trees, the Cahill's of the world are a dime a dozen.

Problem is, the Angels' pitching is going to be shit no matter what they do.

Keep Harvey, pitching is shit.

DFA Harvey, pitching is shit.

etc.
