What's the reason why the offense looks atrocious on certain days?

Recommended Posts

The offense just looks horrific on some days. We had a nice 3 game winning streak, then the offense almost got a perfect game thrown on them. Why does our offense just tanks on certain days. Batters can't seem to work counts. They swing at bad pitches. They tend to stirke out with men in scoring position. Last week there was another pitcher who throw like 50 pitches in like 5-6 innings.

Is this team being over worked or not worked enough with all the star power we have on or is our coaching staff is not preparing them?

I expect or want more consisentency from this team. They need to be competitive every game not just every other game. It's not like they are facing Justin Verlander every game.

On some days, yesterday for example, you are facing an outstanding pitcher in Sales. The answer to winning baseball is to beat up on the mediocre to bad pitchers and try to hold your own against the good ones. The Angels haven't beaten up on too many this season. A lot can be attributed to Bourgos' injury and a lot to the middle of the order not delivering in the clutch. Only Pujols and Hamilton have been consistent run producers over the years and we all know both have been way below their average output early on.

LOL as you are being kind. Truthfully, the offense has been atrocious most times, with glimpses here and there of what it can be. The middle of the order is just plain not delivering. With the exception of Trumbo, the middle of the order has been largely nonexistent this season. Hamilton and Pujols were brought in and paid big money to deliver the goods and to make the lineup around them better. They have failed, and failed miserably, to do just that. Poor preparation, poor conditioning, poor decision making at the plate by the players, coupled with poor coaching has so far equaled a poor outcome to the season. It is beyond ludicrous that a team with this talent level finds itself in the position they are in. Yes, the pitching staff was poorly constructed, but even so, we would be ok if what is supposed to be a strength with this ball club actually performed with consistency. Quite ironic that the word 'poor' is used so liberally on a team with a payroll anything but poor.

pujols and hamilton were supposed to carry the offense, and instead are 8 easy outs a game and they have become a black hole in the middle of the lineup.  the rest of the lineup is filled with a lot of over aggressive hitters who make early count outs and never walk which gives the opposing teams starting pitcher the ability to 9 innings practically every game.  its just a disaster.

Kind of makes you want to sit them both for a couple of weeks, and play two kids.

Kinda sorta been that way since 2010.

Yup.

I also think it's pretty obvious that this team has a terrible approach at the plate when it comes to situational hitting.

The pitcher will walk the first 2 batters, and the next guy up hacks at the first 2 pitches.

The pitcher will be striking out guys left and right, and we start watching strikes and swinging at balls.
