  1. The Angels will be roughly 30-35 mil under the tax threshold, with needs at 2nd, 3rd, and the pen I sincerely doubt thay would sign a TORP. Arrietta and Darvish don’t qualify as one to me. Upgrade the offense and have a solid pen.
  2. Resigning Petit seems like a no-brainer but we don’t know what Eppler has in mind. Right now there is Bedrosian, Middleton and Parker. If Ramirez is healthy he is a viable candidate for the pen or rotation. Skaggs, Richards, Heaney and Tropeano are question marks heading into the spring. Cobb will get a three or four year deal from someone, hopefully not the Angels. Tony Watson on a two year deal would be a quality addition to the pen with his versatility. I would stay away from the 4+ year contracts to the available starters, none are wprth the gamble.
  3. Morin has proven his value-strictly AAA quality. Pounders and Alvarez are in the same category, to me that leaves the other two to show what they have. The Angels need to address the absence of a lefty in the pen for next season.
  4. Third base is not a position of need for most of the contending clubs. Given that Escobar is a free agent at the end of the season his value in trade is not much. The Red Sox are the only team looking for a third baseman and I would think that Escobar is way down the list of possible replacements. I wouldn't trade Bedrosian or Parker yet., remember that deals are made in August also. I think it is better to wait until some teams are desperate for bullpen arms or need an Escobar because of injuries.
  5. The way the roster looks today the position players worth keeping with Trout are Simmons and Maldonado. The top position players in the system are at the lower levels of the minors. There is no power hitting first basemen, no sure thing at second or third. In 2020-21 Trout can be flanked by Adell and Jones. The only saviors will be healthy starters among Heaney, Skaggs, Tropeano and who ever is brought up from the minors. It is way too hard to predict with any certainty where #27 will wind up. The prudent thing may be to check out trade possibilities in a couple years if the Angels are still floundering.
  6. Texas was just upset that he didn't come back to them with the Angels offer. They weren't going anywhere near the 5/125. The angels didn't have to beat the M's offer to sign Hamilton. No power hitter will want any part of Safeco.
  7. DL him so he can get his sex change operation.
  8. I think you explore the trade options to see if some other club will over pay( like the Angels did with Greinke). If can't get a reasonable offer in trade then try to sign him to an extension, but not for more than 3 years. If you can!t resign him then at least tender an offer to get a Draft pick.
  9. There was no real competition for Hamilton when he became a FA. Arte ended up bidding against himself. The fact that Texas didn't go all out to sign him should have been the Red Flag for all other teams. It was a stupid move by Arte to sign him to that bloated contract after his secon half collapse last season. Four more years of his declining abilities and eight more of Albert. This franchise will be hamstrung for yhe duration of these megadeals.
  10. Wait, are we excited because the Angels beat up on Harang for the third time this season. Let's see what happens the next couple of weeks before the ASBreak to get us excited.
  11. At least Hanilton won't get any closer to the Mendoza line today.
  12. He looks both disinterested and dispassionate. I wpuld speculate that the PEDs wore off around the middle of last season and all the abuse to his body from drugs and alcohol have rendered him a shell of his former self. The next 41/2 years willbe more of the same unless he dedicates himself to improve.
  13. There is no sense in rehashing the past and playing the "what if" game. This is an underperforming team with some horrible contracts and a decimated system. If Dipoto stays he needs to focus on rebuilding the farm first, because he is stuck with AP and JH for the next several years., not to mention Wilson. Any trades need to produce prospects with upside or young major league players. Let's hope he is up to the task.
  14. The downward spiral started in early April. This is a "Donut team", no middle of the order and a lack pf quality arms on the mound. Take away the eight game winning streak and that is the team you will see the rest of the season.
