@Jason I thought you’d like this.  I was feeling the itch after NZ and googled closest fly fishing to LA and I ended up at the Kern River today.

I got a guide for a half day and caught 5 rainbows.  It was a great day of fishing.

That’s fantastic! Nice fish too. I’m surprised the river wasn’t moving too quick with the recent storm. I haven’t done so yet but hiring a guide to take you out onto Lake Crowley looks to be fun. That lake produces some huge fish.

This guide I used does Lake Crowley trips in the summer.  I’d recommend him.  Easy going but knows his shit.

What section of the Kern were you in and what guide service did you use?

Climber falls 1,200 feet to his death in Mount St. Helens crater

https://www.yahoo.com/news/climber-falls-1-200-feet-141953496.html

An experienced climber was found dead on Saturday inside the crater of Mount St. Helens, a volcano in Washington state that draws hikers, skiers and snowboarders year-round. Officials say he was attempting to snowboard and died after falling roughly 1,200 feet from the summit, where an icy ridge had cracked off near the rim beneath his feet.

Forgot to add.  Saw these two hispanic dudes on the trail.  All tatted up, but friendly enough like everyone else.  One of them had a ankle gps bracelet on and was wearing a Doggy cap.
