Oakland A's announce plans for new ballpark

Just saw this on their MLB website. Here is the link to their official site about the new plans. Privately funded. Clearly, the Giants wont be able to block this location.

Meetings with Town people, getting it designed, getting permits... Still taking way too much time, IMO.

agreed. 4 years until groundbreaking seems sluggish, like watching pujols run out a grounder to third sluggish.

It's a pretty bad ballpark but, man, is it cheap and easy to get tix, whenever I am up in that area.

So are they going to put 150 foot on deck areas in this one? They should definitely make it about 15,000 person max capacity so they look sold out every night.

Even when they were winning the division they didn't draw that big of crowds on a regular basis.

Of course, you are referring to their problems with the rest rooms. Whatever. I have never experienced that.

I just go for day games when it is warm and NEVER take a shit at a ballpark. After having lived in Mexico and traveled the world, I can take a pee anywhere. If you can pee in a public restrooms in Greece, the OAC doesnt seem so bad.

Same here, for that July 2011 traditional DH, but man is that area desolate.   Only good thing was the BART station being right there.

 Aren't the G.S. Warriors also moving to a new arena in S.F.?

Site seems really small for a stadium, unless they re-route a street or two or expand to the south. Good for the A's to keep the ballpark in Oakland.

don't know much about the process or the site, but isn't this like knocking on your neighbor's door and saying his plot of land would be a perfect place to build your dream house?  i guess they are banking on the community college district playing ball since they are a public institution, but doesn't seem like a given that this will move forward..

Word is they've been sweet talking the community college that has administration buildings on the site for a few months. But they'll have to move them all before they break out the golden shovels and comically oversized hard hats.

This is probably the last shot at the A's staying in Oakland.  If this fails, and history says it will, bank on the A's following the Raiders.

This sounds a little desperate. Most of the time these announcements come with all of the legwork behind them. This is clearly early stage, and to announce it means that they are in need of a lot more support.
