Cowart Recalled

Recommended Posts

@arch stanton you're right he showed little plate discipline the last time he got called up.

Hopefully Cowart will fair better than his last time here because he didn't look like he belonged.

Like others here I hope he succeeds but I have serious reservations about his ability to hit ML pitching.

I'd love to be wrong.

BTW..what's the over/under on Cowart making an error today?

Just take a friggin pitch or 2. He didn't walk a single time after he got called up last year

He might be hacking since he had one of the best nights in years in AAA the other day.

I hope our hitting coach will have a word or two with him and that he listens carefully.

If he hits .240 and runs the bases well, takes some walks and plays the defense we all know he can, he will provide more wins than Escobar who has hit about .275 this year with below average defense.

To be fair, Escobar isn't likely to finish the year at .275, probably a lot closer to .300 like last year, and he's running the bars a lot better this year. So I think Cowart would probably need to hit closer to .270.

Escobar is very underrated among Angels fans. The fact that he's batting clean up in Scioscia level ridiculous, but as a top of the order hitter, last year especially, he was invaluable.

Cowart needs to be a good player to replace Escobar. And he can be, I think he just needs reps and confidence. Once he has momentum he'll stop wondering whether or not he belongs.

He has run the bases better this year, but to have him hit .300 he will have to bat like .325 the rest of the way.  I guess that could happen. I actually like him in the middle of the line up, but it will make more sense once Trout is back.
