Should Scoscia be let go ??

Still think he has done a good job despite the 17-20 record. I mean, the starting pitchers have been hurt (Richards and Skaggs) and your other starters are composed of Nolasco, Chavez, and JC Ramirez (he would be good coming out of the bullpen though) and you're just 3 games under .500 close to Mid-May? Not bad at all. And not to mention that the Angels lost the best player in the game (Trout) for 6 games already and we're only in May.

Regardless, I think the GM should be held responsible before the manager since he's making all the moves.

The GM doesn't make calls when to put/pull pitchers and who to play when. He can only provide the players within the budget he's given. He addressed every position necessary. Scioscia gets out coached nightly. I'm waiting for him to hit Espinosa cleanup because #sciosciathings

Is it his fault that the last year we won a playoff game was 2009 when Jeff Mathis of all people beat the Yankees with a walk-off double?

Is it his fault that we actually made the playoffs ONCE since then, and were swept out of them quicker than you could blink an eye?

No it isn't.

Come on TD, he's making $5M per year and shows no signs of really getting upset or concern about anything. He's scuffling, he's working on things, he threw really well but missed a few spots, we just need to tweak some things, he's fine, he's healthy but he needs a day to clear his head.

The best one is when he tried to convince the fans that it was ok for Josh Hamilton to be rehabbing in Houston rather than with the team of doctors in Arizona because he would be doing the same rehabbing in Houston.

Hey he's just jolly ole Mike Scioscia no matter what. He's a good guy that doesn't want to rattle the cage. HOF no matter how we play on the field.

Another troll post.  He didn't try to convince us about Hamilton he was in a position where he couldn't really speak his mind.  Also he has had the same boring expressions to the media and during games whether they win or lose.  Don't be so ignorant that what you see is the reality of what he is behind closed doors.

Mike will never be 'let go' mid season.  Eppler isn't an idiot.  He knows this team lacks talent.  His attempt to create redundancy is helpful for when Espinosa or Maybin or Revere or Marte etc struggle so they can be replaced by another mediocre player.  But Scioscia can't make those players more talented.  He can't say something magical to them which makes them perform better.  The most he or any manager can do is to optimize a players chances of success.  To provide them with appropriate opportunities.  I would love to see someone make an argument where he hasn't done that this year or over the last few.  Where the amount of wins on the field felt disproportionately low relative to the talent we saw.

MS may move on prior to his contract but it will be because both he and Eppler and Arte all agree that it's time to try a different voice.

You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit.  You can try, but it still looks and smells and tastes like shit.

Right now, I smell shit.

Best manager in franchise history but it is time for him to go. Let Eppler pick his own manager if he's truly going to be the guy moving forward

I agree ... although, odds are against finding a better manager. Still, I have no problem moving onward with a new voice.

Just look at this years examples, the twins, reds, and Rockies.  Every year managers on some teams are able to squeeze much more than they should out of the roster their given.  Scioscia doesn't seem to be able to do that. No one seems to rise above their talent and often underperform.  How many examples can you site of both players coming here and doing worse and leaving and thriving.

How do you know that what he says behind closed doors is different from his boring and useless public pronouncements? They could very well be the same thing.

It's probably like the A's Moneyball clubhouse with nobody paying attention to Scioscia.

these threads always go nowhere because someone wants to pin the lack of (recent) success on just one simple thing. there are so many factors involved, and the manager is just one such factor. is sosh the one thing that's holding this team back right now? absolutely not.

But how many times has a manager been fired just because a change needs to be made?  It's probably not the right decision most of the time.

That being stated I don't think he should be fired.  It looks like a .500 record this year, which would be great for this years team.
