Future Phillie Mike Trout does E-A-G-L-E-S chant at Linc

Recommended Posts

That's the headline on Comcast Sports Net Philadelphia from Sunday's Eagles game. There's a vid clip of one of the Eagles' New Jersey fans singing the fight song. The gentleman from Millville is definitely an Eagles' fan. Is the headline an expression of wishful thinking by someone at the Phillies' cable outlet?

Every team is going to angle for Trout.  It is up to the Angels to keep him here with a good team around him and another badass contract.

Right, just saying with Klentak in Philly there will be a familiarity between him and Trout on both sides that will stand apart from other teams. Not saying that is enough to tip the scale in any way, just another factor.

Are we panicking because one of our players has continued to follow the same football team he grew up with?

Yes we are, no idea why, but we are.  I would be more worried if he came to Anaheim and then gave up his Eagles and started rooting for the Rams.  Then you would have a reason to question his loyalties.  That might be a bigger indication that he would leave than continuing to root for the team he grew up a fan of.

Any GM worth a damn will make themselves familiar with Trout , his agent, his wife, his parents , his suit measurements , and his meal preferences. He's the best player on earth and if/when he's a free agent (in four years) Mike's decision will be informed by a great deal more than "hey, I remember seeing you around sometimes".
