No not a new RF sign but a sign of things to come. We don't have the horses to compete this season. We don't have any tradeable assets that will help us "win now". We can't move Pujols, Weaver, Wilson, Lincecum or Street. The farm sucks and the upcoming free agent market looks thin. Hamilton still gets $24M of Arte's money next season. Trout, Pujols and Simmons will all get raises while a ton of ARB cases hit. Pujols will be 38 years old and making $27M when Heaney, Trop and Richards attempt their comebacks.

Please cue in the Hee Haw Doom and Gloom song.

Street is definitely tradeable, we just wouldn't get a lot for him.

He's pricey and is no longer a dependable closer. Again we picked up a star player at the end of his career. He's not the Huston Street that used to dominate. It must be nice to be able to dump a Chapman type player and get something in return.

That's a bit extreme considering he hasn't pitched 20 innings this year. He was very good last year and incredible the year before.

So you'll be checking out for a couple years at least, correct?

It's a pretty small sample but his numbers are ugly. There were warning signs at the end of last year too. As an opposing team I would be reluctant to take on his entire contract, let alone give up something of value for that right.

Well I did purchase Rams season tickets.

So we'll see you on ramswin.com instead, right?  You know, instead of having this topic re-treaded more than Angus Young's riff repitoire.  Maybe if this thought bubbles up again perhaps just bump this entry....we'll call this the official "Pessimism Orgy Thread".

Or, if the need strikes, maybe create a template and just copy and paste to save time.  Something like...

"Trout doesn't like us and will sign with someone else, Pujols is old and getting older, all the rest of our good players will either get injured or leave us, those that do leave us will suddenly play better and we'll have to look at their success in envy, the farm is bare and nothing good will come from our draft or future free agent signing except angst and misery...we are dead, we are doomed, there is no hope"

Or something to that effect

I don't see the reason to move him just to move him, particularly if we have to eat a lot of money....hold on to him and hope he can pitch well the rest of the way.....if he finds it again, trade him before August 31 or in the offseason but let's not sell low....

I don't know enough about the Angel's position relative to the luxury tax. If that's the only way to get below it then it might be worth trading him now. No reason to incur a year over the luxury tax this year if it can be avoided. But if we're already below the tax threshold or there is another reasonable way to get below it then I agree with you. Street has been a reliable closer and 10 innings is a really small sample. He could go on a 10 outing scoreless streak and people will think he's back. Hell, Salas had a solid month after years and years of sucking and people were ready to make him the closer on this board. Every pitcher, even ones as bad as Salas, have great stretches. With a guy like Street it may be easier to convince teams that he's rebounded than a guy without his track record.
