For those that can't click links at work: (See Below)

The Boston Red Sox have been found in violation of the sport's international signing system, and as a result, the team is barred from signing any international amateur players during the 2016-17 signing period, according to sources.

Because of the violations, the contracts of players involved in the situation have been voided, including outfielders Simon Muzziotti and Albert Guaimaro, pitcher Cesar Gonzalez, and infielder Antonio Pinero.

The players who've had their contracts voided can be scouted by all other teams at a workout on July 5 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Any of our Guru's around here know anything about these kids and could an addition or two of these young ones help us?

Thanks in advance!~

looks like one of those guys is 18th.  the Cubs have 5.  The dogs have 4, including #1 and #3.

Angels scouts were accused of skimming bonuses in the Dominican. Lost years to that scandal.

self imposed.

We are actually starting to see a few guys make their way over.   We've got 9 previous DSL players on the AZL roster right now and 3 others that we drafted out of Puerto Rico.  We've actually got quite a few players from Venezuela on our DSL roster.  It seems like we've been there a bit more than the DR as of late.

Maybe, the Venezuelan talent is more Slappyier?....

Roberto Baldoquin: Jerry Dipoto's parting gift. Way to fuck this org, Jerry.

I would agree except for: a) Josh Hamilton; 2) The org wasn't going to do anything smart with that money anyway.

So the Angels went 6 million over the budget for Robert Baldoquin.

Why did they only sign one international player if they knew they couldn't do anything for 2 years after? they could've easily brought in a few more international players because the penalty would've stayed the same. The obvious answer is the 100 percent tax markup, but international prospects can be found on the cheap.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/04/mlb-releases-2016-17-international-bonus-pools.html

  • All overages are taxed at 100 percent.
  • Exceed bonus pool by 5 to 10 percent: Team is not allowed to sign a player for more than $500K in the following international signing period.
  • Exceed by 10 to 15 percent: Team is not allowed to sign a player for more than $300K in the following international signing period.
  • Exceed by more than 15 percent: Team is not allowed to sign a player for more than $300K in the following two international signing periods.

Another thing of note

Penalties for the international bonus pool are as follows (international bonus pools only apply to players who are under the age of 23 and have fewer than three years of professional experience):

So the restriction only limits them to players under the age of 23. There is a lot of international talent above the age of 23.
