"Quality" is a bit much but he is a pretty good hitter. His issue of course though is that his defensive shortcomings really limit his value.

I like the Cron and Perez combo for an all-time MLB record 11 hits and 11 RBI.

These are two of the most maligned hitters on this board.

And I've been guilty of it too.

It was almost like Cron was telling Harold Reynolds to slow down. Some raised eyebrows and a startled look as Reynolds was anointing him the new star slugger.

Well to be fair very few players have 6 hit games, so yes this will probably be the best game of his career.  And probably the best game of our season.  

If we can do this 55 more times this year we will make the wild card.

If Cron has shown anything thus far in his career, it's that he's a streaky hitter. When he's locked in like he is right now, he's a monster. When he's off, he looks absolutely worthless.

Since April 18th, take out his first 12 games and 40 AB. 

AB 197 HR 9 2B 14 .325/.369/.543/.912

He's been on absolute fire over the last couple weeks

He has a .439 BABIP in that time though.

Only the second Angel to ever have six hits in a game, the other being Chone Figgins in 2007. The last six-hit game was Charlie Blackmon in 2014. It has only happened about 75ish times since 1900.

Better. But that's easy to say when someone is on a hot streak.  Time will tell.  Still not a particularly good player overall. Defense and baserunning aren't good.  He needs to mash.  

Harold Reynolds sure loves him some CJ Cron.

Granted Trumbo is having a great first half, he had a great first half with us in 2012. The year he was an All Star. he hit 306/.358/.608/.965 with 22 HR in the first half. In the second half though he slipped to .227/.271/.359/.630. True he plays the corner OF positions, but not very well though.

This year Trumbo is leading the world in HR but it's still the first half but as far as Cron being the next Trumbo remember Cron is 4 years younger than Trumbo and Mark hasn't been all that, since leaving the Angels. In fact this is his best year since leaving.

His strikeout/walk rates are trending in the right direction as well.

2015 20.3%/4.2%

Not the biggest sample size but a potential bright spot in this dreadful season. 

He's been great this year in all those zero pressure situations.

He's streaky, too streaky....he's not ideal in a lot of ways but he's cheap and we could do a lot worse....Unless we have a better option on the hook, I'd keep him....

I think it is clear now that Cron is having a breakthrough season. He's now hitting .284/.337/.484 with 11 HR in 275 PA. He'll never be a superstar or even a star, but he could be a consistent .280/.800, 25 HR hitter - which is plenty good enough to help this team.
