I'm not passionate enough to care. My understanding is that throughout our time on earth there have been times of higher temperatures and times of lower temperatures. I have a brother in law that is a doctor of science who does strange things with atoms at one of the poles (north or south) and he believes there is a connection between man and climate change.

The problem is all humans would have to try.  But we know places like China, India, Bangladesh will not.

Really?

This is not to say countries like China and India are perfect partners...but this idea that the US should just sit on it's hands because other countries might not be making as many investments makes no sense. Hell, just from an energy independence and economic standpoint it makes all the sense in the world. The US had the chance to be the leading clean/renewable energy manufacturer in the world and is just throwing the opportunity away.

ugh, this argument is stupid.  bottom line is that every country will give lip service but not many will really do anything against its own interests.  Especially the good ol' usa.

So, your answer is just ignore everything and do nothing instead?

Hey, the fat ass down the street isn't going to diet, so screw it, give me a double pepperoni pizza

Would certainly save the folks in Florida some cash

City of Miami is spending $300-400 million to fend off the sea (an it won't work anyways seeing as Florida is built on porous limestone)

You can't convince me that you really care about what happens to Florida.

It's stupid how this became a political issue. Our conservatives are the worst in regards to this. Republicans are paid off by oil companies to tell their base that we can't make a termination and their voters are naive enough to go along with it because it's their guys saying it. Cons around the world for the most part accept the science.

laugh...ok

We'll all just sit back and watch what happens when there are millions of refugees from the state of Florida in the next few decades...when they don't have things like fresh water, or land...because that will be cheaper than doing nothing.

It was a joke.  Sheesh.

Florida is argument 1-100 as to why we should do nothing!

I would agree, to an extent, that we should be taking a close look at each situation. There are certainly areas where that would be throwing good money after bad. It's like those people who build in the dry hillsides and then wonder why their house keeps burning down. Anyone stupid enough to invest significant money in South Florida right now deserves what they get.

Unfortunately it's easy to just think, ****'em....but that can potentially create other problems. What do you do with the refugees? What would a crashing Florida, North Carolina, Virginia Beach, etc. real estate market do to the economy? How many insurance companies simply just declare bankruptcy. And in the long run...what's actually more cost effective?

Those are the conversations we should be having.

Merchants of Doubt is an interesting documentary. It's ultimately a warning for climate change but it shows tactics employed by special interests on several issues.
