Arte waffling on going over the luxury tax.

Why didn't they go deeper into the intl market?

How much is the GM responsible for the farm in terms of drafting? Angels f'd up by letting go of Bane.

Arte left the international market when there was some sort of scandal down there involving one of our guys, was it Sutherland? IP or Doc will know the story. Bottom line is you have to have the stomach for what gets done down there. Something that my guess Arte is uncomfortable with.

That handcuffed Dipoto a bit. In the end he sold prospects high and got a big haul. Had he not made any trades the prospects wouldn't be worth what they netted. He was also forced into Pujols and Hamilton.

How can you not blame him for the farm it's his job to build the farm. It's like not blaming Arte for Albert.

He did. His farm trades are now in the majors and the most sought after players from other teams. He brilliantly sold crappy farm pieces and over-valued big leaguers for serious talent.

Who would you have given a QO offer too, certainly not Freese. Well, I wouldn't I guess others would. Hunter wasn't work it back then either, not when he said he would accept a smaller role with the team for less money. In hindsight we screwed that up, but we went after Greink and ended up with Hamilton.

When was the last time the Angels gave a QO to a player?  I seriously can't remember. Was it when they drafted trout?

Being afraid to risk spending a little more for 1 season seems rather pedestrian with all the shitty long term contracts the angels have.

Well it won't matter soon, anyway. Why invest anything internationally now, anyway? Arte sees the writing on the wall and knows that once President Trump is in charge, ain't nobody getting here from outside the country.

Maybe I'm only remembering one bad Dipoto trade where the Angels lost Grichuk. And only looking at the positive where Dipoto netted:

Trop

Perez

Santiago

Heaney

Skaggs

Street

I don't get the Dipoto traded the farm comments but I could be wrong. It looks like the only tradeable assets came from Dipoto's moves. What am I missing?

Came across this article

Now, for the sixth year in a row, the Angels and their lowly ranked farm system will be left with either at most one first-round or sandwich pick in the June draft. In other words, they’ve had fewer first-round picks (3) in the six drafts since 2011 than they did in each of 2009 and 2010 drafts (5). Some of that is bad luck and some of that is bad decisions from ownership, but it’s also partly a failure to adapt to the new reality of the system. If the team decides it’s OK without high draft picks, then it probably shouldn’t also be one of the least active organizations on the international market. Trades for young, cost-controlled players like Heaney are nice, but there are only so many of those a team can make to rebuild the farm and remain a contender.

Absolutely nothing in the farm

Paying $40 million for a dude who isn't on the team

Current roster has about 5-6 significant holes all the while having a bloated payroll

Angels are in great shape

All whilst having one of the greatest players in a generation in his absolute prime under club control.

I'm still convinced the Angels rebuild after the Vernon Wells trade if it weren't for Trout.

Trout basically screwed the Angels by being so damn good. lol
