You can also go to costco and get a 10 Gallon drum of cooking oil or a 50 LB bag of rice.

My oldest son cooks a lot and makes up a week of meals at a time. He uses up a lot of rice and every Christmas we gift him the gaudiest 20lb bag of rice from the Asian market that we can find. By his birthday in April he is almost ready for another now that he has a room mate.

I usually hit Ross Dress For Less. We had a $10 maximum last year for work. I found a glass chess set for $8.99 that originally sold for over $100. Can get some really nice gifts without spending a lot of cash.
