Ozzie Smith part 2

Reminds me of when one of the old highlights shows (TWIB?) did a montage of Ozzie Smith plays to the tune of the munchkins singing "Wonderful Wizard of Oz".

Simmons' plays brought that memory back for me.

 

Simmons' arm is as sick as a disease.    Now I can see how he once threw 98mph off a mound. 

His flips to 2B are almost as fast as Eckstein's throws to 1B were.

 

Incredible thing is, he makes it all look routine.

He appears to be a double play starting wizard too.

 

Aybar's range was good, but not THIS good.

This video led me to watch about 20 more videos on YouTube. Some comments:

 

-Dude has an absolute gun. Wow.

-He has an incredibly quick release.

-Freddie Freeman is pretty good defensively too.

 

I am thinking Andrelton is going to be a fan favorite.

What strikes me is how other guys just back away, or go to cover bases, knowing he is going to make the play on anything close to him.

 

I have seen enough of him, watching as much NL as I do, that I was impressed with getting the guy right away...even with the high cost. Before reading about him being talked about as potentially being moved, yesterday morning, I had never thought that he would be available. Trying to see it through Eppler's eyes, I'm going after a talent like this when the opportunity falls in my lap, too.

Yeah he cost a bunch, but if his bat improves (15-20 points in BA is very few hits a month), you are looking at a superstar and a HOFer. 

You can't let players like that go elsewhere, when you have the pieces to get a deal done for him.

No doubt Andrelton and Trout alone is worth the price of admission for the next five years. I can't wait to see the finish product in April. Especially if we do get a big name free agent.

I can imagine how many put out he will have to as a cut off man, with his cannon of an arm. He is going to save a lot of runs for this team defensively.

His footwork is flawless. He makes it look so easy, making a difficult play look easy. Athleticism, footwork, length, body control, and strong arm, his defense is on par with Ozzie's Smith acrobatic plays.
