I know there is more than one factor here but what I see is elbow injury versus shoulder injuries.

Lackey has faced the Cubs 3 times this season, all St Louis victories. He pitched 21.2 innings and gave up a total of 3 runs. That is a 1.25 ERA.

He treats Maddon like his bench bitch.

 

Update, now 4 games, 4 wins, 29 innings pitched, 3 earned runs and a 0.93 ERA while maintaining Maddon as his bitch.
