86 world series, game 6, mets dugout around the 8th inning when they were down by a few runs and it looked like the red sox were about to win the world series. they made a ridiculous comeback and won the game in the 10th on bill buckner's hack job on mookie wilson's grounder to first. i think the story goes that keith hernandez was already in the locker room about to change, when they called him back to hit, which was quite a surprise to him. something like that.

While this did happen in 88 against LA, the depression was due to Gooden finding out that his cocaine source had been pinched. Strawberry was in the clubhouse looking for a new dealer.
