#Angels worked until the Deadline, seeking a reliever (with control) and another bat, though there was no obvious fit. Just due diligence.

 

Angels were big on finding players that WERENT rentals. Don't blame them

 

Makes sense they were looking for control -- they understood they don't have the quantity to make up for rental type trades.

Dave Stewart tells Burns and Gambo the Padres wanted Paul Goldschmidt from the Dbacks for closer Craig Kimbrell.

Just a thought, but did the Wilson injury make it nearly impossible to include Shoe or Trop in any trade for a bat. They obviously knew he was hurt going into the deadline today.

The failure wasn't on this front office. The failure was on drafts from 2010-present. We didn't have the pieces without gutting our farm and mostly for rentals. Very few players that were traded have years of control. What's the list of controllable players or players under contract after this year that were dealt:

Hamels

Tulo

Parra

Revere

Gomez

Fiers

Alex Wood

There might be a couple of more. But all of the players that were traded who would you give up Newcombe for? Probably just Hamels.
