Scioscia's feel for the game used to make him a pretty good manager when everyone else was going by feel as well.  Now it's opportunities missed.

Why would Sosh leave now? He's the only Manager in MLB who acts as GM and Owner. He won't get that perk anywhere else in the league.

Not to mention, if he went to the Dodgers, he'd work under Andrew Friedman who is Jerry Dipoto on steroids.

Sometimes Scioscia  gets a tip on a player and he likes to stick him in, just to see how it feels.

You don't really believe that's true, do you? You can take issue with his methods - I certainly do - but it's silly to infer that his refusal to use advanced stats is because of a lack of desire to win/succeed. He simply thinks there are better ways to go about it. I disagree with him. Dipoto disagreed with him. Most forward-thinking baseball people today would disagree with him, but it has nothing to do with how badly he wants to win.

 

Don't know how long you have been reading AW but there is ZERO love loss between me and El Catorce.  I hate that son of a bitch more than anyone on here.... and I believe this with all my heart and I have since the day he showed up on the scene.  No one and I mean NO ONE has Mickey Hatcher as a hitting coach, expecting to win anything.

 

Has his methods of madness been successful over the long haul?  The regular season record would say yes.  We got lucky in '02 and the luck just wasn't there the other years... but I have to wonder, if he really cared, would it have made a difference?

Methinks we have found the problem. We have a manager who ignores trends and quantifiable data, and a pitching coach who wants every pitcher to become completely predictable.

For this we just lost our general manager. Great job, Arte.

No wonder these pitchers have the worst habit of giving up 2 out runs. Dont the Angels lead baseball in that category?

How are you so sure the Dodgers would take Scioscia? They now have a very forward thinking front office that would most certainly clash with Sosh like Dipoto and his staff have/did.

Do you think Dipoto went to Arte to talk about this? It would make sense. What would Arte tell him? You have to work it out with Scioscia? You're the GM?

There is not one person or one incident that could get me to just give up watching the Angels. There will be a time when the team isn't competitive again, when we will be a 70 win team, and I am sure my interest will waiver, but if the game is on, I will probably watch it in hopes that we have young players that are developing, so I will get enjoyment out of that.
