I get better reception out of 710 so I'm happy with that, however I get the feeling there will a whole lot less Angels talk.

Well, he was on Jim Rome as a Producer for over a decade so everything he learned he learned from Jim Rome. But I agree he got old fast. If I want to listen to Rome I'll go listen to his show. I enjoyed the Angels talk during baseball season even though Travis Rodgers disliked Angels fans taking over his show.

Validation!!!

I always thought that he sounded too much like Jim Rome. I know that he was Romie's Producer but it just sounded soooo much like Romie.

Was always waiting for someone to say " Hey Travis, thanks for the vine"

Travis Rodgers is not a Jim Rome clone, guys. Quite the opposite. There's a reason he reminds people of Rome and that is because Rome patterned his style and presentation after Rodgers. Everything that came out of Rome's mouth was put there by Rodgers. I can only imagine how much it must bother him to have people believe the opposite.

Anyway, this sucks. I listen to Travis every morning. His show is great.

Announced this morning that he is going to espn 710.

AM830 gets Mike and Mike (Same and Samer) with Roger Lodge doing updates.

Did he give out the time slot?

Sad to see that we won't be getting more Angels talk in the morning now with it being handed over to Mike and Mike.  The Roger Lodge "break-ins" seem odd to me.

Will there still be the Sports Lodge in the afternoons or is that getting axed too?

Also, I always had trouble with Travis' "Um, Okay" after each time he tried to make his point--that was annoying.  Reminded me of a South Park character....

Jim Rome was like that long before Travis Rodgers. If you want to say Rodgers was the reason for a lot of Jim Romes popularity you can make an argument for that, but Jim Rome has always been like the Jim Rome you hear today.

have a take, don't suck.

is jim rome even on the radio anymore? i see he's on showtime so he and his guests can swear once in a while, but the last time i checked for him on the radio (last summer) i couldn't find him.

how can a radio host pattern his style and presentation after his producer who isn't even on the air?

Maybe in the preproduction meetings Roger told Jim "this is how I would say it".

The producer isn't on the air; he's in his ear. And the show is carefully planned beforehand.

Look, I'm not saying Jim Rome doesn't have talent or bring his own personality to the job; I'm just saying that I know first hand from a person who was integrally involved with the show they did together that Travis was the driving force behind it and that the "takes" were far more often than not Travis', not Rome's.

Rome has been doing that bit since his days at 690 in the late 80's way before Rodgers was his producer.

that's what i was thinking. i remember listening to him early in his career and he has always been the way he is now

The Jim Rome Show is almost always hiring writers. I've seen their ads on Craigslist.
