The producer isn't on the air; he's in his ear. And the show is carefully planned beforehand.

Look, I'm not saying Jim Rome doesn't have talent or bring his own personality to the job; I'm just saying that I know first hand from a person who was integrally involved with the show they did together that Travis was the driving force behind it and that the "takes" were far more often than not Travis', not Rome's.

when you say you have a reliable source, i tend to believe you. afterall, because of you the legend of tripod was born.

per the Googles, they both went to UCSB, however, Rodgers didn't join Rome until 1996 in LA.

Ergo, he wasn't with him in SD.

with all due respect to LTH, i'm not really buying what his little birdie is tweeting. (bird tweeting, not twitter tweeting)

The "have a take, don't suck" phrase was used by Rome as early as 1990-1993.  I remember listening to Rome every day during those times.

Travis didn't create Rome, but he almost certainly was the driving force behind what made Rome as big as he was. The Smackoff that Rome is famous for was a creation of Travis Rodgers. The fact that most of his show is scripted, and that script came from Rodgers, shows that a TON of the credit for Rome becoming the most succesful sports radio host ever should go to Travis Rodgers.

As for them sounding alike, yea, maybe, but Rodgers show is not nearly as bad as Romes. I think that might be because the format is different with most of the "takes" being tweets rather than callers and clones. I like Rodgers a lot, because he is humble, unlike Jim Rome.

i highly doubt Rodgers wrote out a script and Rome just read it every day.

Like some have said, Rome was exactly the same before Rodgers joined him in LA in 1996.

I'm not saying Rodgers didn't have any influence on Rome, but to give him all of the credit for Rome's success is ridiculous

I'm not giving him all the credit, but a large part of it. He is the Lorne Michaels to the Not Ready for Prime Time players.

thenj i guess Rodgers telepathically guided Rome during his days in SD, where he became so successful that he quickly made his way to LA.
