Angels acquire 2B Josh Rutledge for RHP Jairo Diaz

Boooooo. Rated poorly in defensive metrics and has the usual Rockies home/road splits. We'll see another infield move (Eduardo Escobar or Brock Holt maybe), now I'm worried about replacing some of his offensive production. Feel like the team needs a bat now.

I think they will go after Beckham as they probably still want a defensive replacement for Freese in the later innings, and Beckham can play multiple positions.

I know how the Angels can upgrade at 2B.   Trade Heaney for Howie Kendrick.

A guy who play play every position (apart from catcher/pitcher..maybe?) who hits well and can run some...if you don't want him I'll take him!

The problem is that he's a career .230 hitter outside of Coors.

 

Swings and misses a lot too.  But he's another option, and maybe Groove can work with him cut down on the Ks.   

Rutledge and Green is a better option than just Green.

I like Green and am in the camp that thinks he can put up numbers similar to Howie's offensively. Might be looking at a late game replacement on defense though.

Ianetta's were awful too, but his offense has translated just fine. Sometimes simply playing in a more familiar environment helps a guy play more consistently.

 

Also some players need to get better plate alignment.

I'm in the sign Beckham camp. I have no faith in Green as a hitter much less his defense. Rutledge is interesting ... I think he'll win the job from Green if it came down to those two.

Our draft position makes DeShields a near impossibility unless we trade with the team picking him.

Rutledge doesn't have to be a .300 hitter people, just needs to put up solid defense and hit around .270 and not hit into heart breaking DP's constantly... I don't think with him playing everyday that a .270 avg would be asking so much. 

 

Most importantly he's from Alabama... Roll Tide Baby!

 

Rutelage isn't capable of either of these things.  Don't get this when we could have just signed Gordon to league minimum and held on to pitching depth.
