I bought a guitar yesterday.

been wanting to buy one for several years and learn how to play mostly to help out with worship programs at school, but also for my own enjoyment.

its nothing fancy. It’s a Samick and I bought it for $30 off Facebook marketplace. Took it to my local music store and got it restringed (is that a word?) and bought a chord chart and a strap. My goal is to be able to play competently before this school year is out.

my music store offers lessons at $25 for half an hour. I’ll probably need to do that at some point. For now I’d like to see what’s available online. Anyone have a place/person/website to recommend? I’m starting at absolute zero on this.

Tried to learn a D chord last night - ouch. This will take some work.

i have had my first two guitar lessons this week. very basic stuff. my teacher is one of my former students. it's gone okay so far. we learned how to tune yesterday by tuning the strings to each other. next week we'll use an app to make sure we're in the right key.

i have pretty large hands/fingers, so holding down the strings for each note is an issue so far. i also never really realized just how hard one has to hold the strings to produce a clean sounding note. 

lesson #3 next monday.
