What is everyone's thoughts on Masterson? What do you think he will sign for? I think if we could land Masterson on a 2yr deal that would be awesome. He has the upside of a #2 but worse case is a #4.

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I didnt see anything posted specifically in regards to Masterson.

What tdawg said, one year deal with incentives/option year would be good.

Masterson is kind of GRich lite.   He has a similar heavy sinker, but his fastball isn't as good as GRich's and unlike GRich struggled in 2014.

The drop in velocity in 2014 is a concern.

big velocity drop in 2014. arm going or mechanical. lot of walks and baserunners. I can't handle another CJ wilson. CJ is arguably more consistent.

Unfortunately Masterson also has a severe L/R split. He's much better against same-side (righties).

This would normally be an okay situation except for the fact that a lot of the big hitters in the AL West are lefties: Cano, Fielder, Choo, Saunders, Miller, Moss, Reddick, et al.

I could easily see him putting one or two on base to start the game and giving up a crushing home run to one of the above on a regular basis (since a majority of our game are played in the AL West).

If we go after a free agent I'd rather see us pick up someone like McCarthy.

Lol did you really just use Brad Miller as an example of big lefty bats in the AL West? McCarthy will definitely be out of the price range.
