Butler's been close to an institution in that lineup.    That would be surprising.

Well the A's just traded Cespedes, I am sure this would be similar, except at least the Royals can lean on all of their other homegrown talent. The A's are a bunch of high performing castaways.

He is going to keep yelling until people agree with him that the Lester trade was bad for Oakland.  Whatever reservations people had about that trade helping the A's should have ended when Chris Russo took an opposing viewpoint.

Just saw though that even as I knew that Butler has struggled some this season, I had no idea it was such a struggle, just 5 HRs and a sub .700 OPS?

I'd have to think there were some premium prospects going back to TB along with Aioki and Butler, if it's for Price.

KC does have a trade history of course with TB.

And they are still in the thick of the WC race.

 

On a different subject, it doesn't seem possible that Kauffman Stadium is now the 6th oldest stadium in MLB (1973).

Time flies by too fast, seems like just the other day that Ryan pitched his first no-hitter there 41 years and 2.5 months ago, just 1.5 months into the stadium's existence.

Moss, Donaldson, Norris, and Jaso are no longer high performing castaways. Some of those guys have been producing well above average numbers for the last 3 straight years, and Norris was a top prospect in the Gio Gonzalez trade who is coming into his own as one of the best catchers in the league. Crisp is not a castaway either. He's been an above average center fielder for about a decade and has been great for the A's.

To be fair, we have completed 3 trades this season, for Grilli, Thatcher, and Street, so it's not like we haven't done anything.

Word is that the Tigers are going to trade Smyly+ for Price. Trading a great young pitcher for a year of David Price seems like a marginal gain when you have such a crappy bullpen.
