Thatcher to Angels

Recommended Posts

So who goes out when you want to use Alvarez or bring back Bedrosian? There's a glut of right handed relievers so trading one for a lefty doesn't seem like a tragedy to me.

There isn't a glut of GOOD right handed relievers though. Jepsen has been good this year. Also, Rasmus can be sent down.

I'm down with trading Jepsen. Trade him before he turns into a pumpkin

My thoughts exactly

I'm also assuming that this wouldn't be the last move. They move Jepsen and get the good lefty specialist out of the pen in Thatcher. Then they do another deal for closer on a bad team or some other good reliever like Joaquin Benoit. If that's what happens, I'm good with it

Smith

Grilli

Morin

Another trade addition

Thatcher

Rasmus or Salas as back-end depth

As can Salas.

Also sounds like one they don't want to stow the extra starter in the BP once they go back to a 5 man rotation, so there's another spot.

If trading Jepsen to get Thatcher which then leads to a trade to get Street, I'll be good with this trade.  I'm guessing the Padres might want Calhoun though, which I don't think would be worth it.

How would trading Jepsen for Thatcher "lead" to a trade for Street though?

You're not gonna turn around and trade Thatcher for Street obviously or I guess they could spin off Campana(but he's Tony Campana, so I would be surprised if the Padres really valued him), so seems to me like they're independent transactions.

Unless they're gonna spin off Campana in a Street trade(which seems unlikely because he's Tony Campana), they seem like entirely independent transactions.

I didn't mean lead directly, I just meant if a trade then happened afterwards and Street took Jepsens spot in the pen.

Don't mind me, I'm super tired right now from the day and I'm not even making sense in my head.

Campana has to be for minor league depth. They are pretty secure at the MLB level with their OF situation.

and if the Padres asked for Calhoun for Street, Halos would laugh and hang up. Street should cost a mid-level prospect. People aren't paying for relievers, unless its Aroldis Chapman or Craig Kimbrel

You've got Smith, Grilli, Morin for high leverage. Rasmus, Salas, Carpenter, Kohn is enough to handle low leverage and long work. Jepsen has been great against righties this year and I'd love to see him stay and team with a LOOGY to be the inhereted runner duo but I sure wouldn't make him a deal breaker for a reliable lefty.

Trading CAlhoun would be incredibly stupid. I've ragged on this FO over the years for certain things, but I just can't see them trading Calhoun

Cowgill seems more logical, though I'd rather have him over Campana. Campana is basically a pinch runner because he has great speed, that's about it

If Cowgill is dealt, we won't have to worry about a platoon anymore. Campana is a lefty just like CAlhoun

unless Cowgill is the one being traded.

Even in that scenario though, I'm not sure I buy that Campana is the next best OF they have.

This better just be a random throw-in that's not leading to anything being added on the Angels' end, cause his value seems similiar to like a Kyle Hudson or whoever the Angels have in the minors who is basically an expanded roster pinch-runner.
