Sean Burnett Update

Recommended Posts

Tuesday: threw a total of 11 pitches

Today: is scheduled to throw a "simulated game".

Scioscia: "(Burnett) not really knocking on the door yet", although "his stuff looked good".

He can't even knock on a door? He's way worse than I thought.

So, Burnett has had "outstanding" bullpens, has looked great in simulated games, and his "stuff" continues to "look good".

Yet, he is not even close to returning to the mound in a real game, even to face a single batter. When was his surgery, like a year ago?? What's the deal here?!

2014 salary: $3.875 million.

I think I liked it when we got no updates on players in rehab so they would just fade from memory and it wouldn't be so aggravating to hear how they are not ready to return week after week.

Back in the day, there were very few Steve Ontiveros updates.

(He never threw a pitch for us.)

I honestly forget about him and don't expect to see him return this year, but it still pisses me off

I'm over it, he would truly be helpful if he was healthy, but that won't be the case. Oh and if he goes on and is healthy somewhere else so be it. This is nobodies fault, he wasn't damaged goods, he just got injured.

FWIW

@Alden_Gonzalez: De La Rosa will start rehab assignment with Triple-A on Sunday. Burnett had an encouraging extended spring outing. Will do another Monday.

@JeffFletcherOCR: #Angels OF Kole Calhoun said he's hoping to be able to go on a rehab assignment in about 2 weeks.

You know players contracts are insured with regards to injuries, right?

Actually very few of them are. That insurance is very expensive so teams only get it on the for very special circumstances. I'm guessing the Angels don't have it for anyone.

The ones who have it are probably the pitchers with long deals (Felix, verlander, etc)

What does "extended" mean, 12 pitches instead of 11?

Color me a skeptic, but I don't anticipate any production from him at all. I hope to be proved wrong.

It also means pitching in shorts and a hat with

No one in the stands and a dozen teenagers standing around that are waiting for short season to start. I'll get excited when Burnett throws 3 rehab sessions in the low 90's, pain free against AAA hitters.

Until then, he's a sunk cost. The final remaining relic in what was a series of bad moves made by Dipoto (Hanson, Burnett, Madson, Blanton).
