The Yankees just saved 25m..our chances just dropped from around 20% to 5%.

The Yankees still would like to be under the CBT, and if they sign Tanaka they won't be. I still think it will come down to the Angels, Mariners and Yankees. With Seattle being the favorites in my opinion.

Tanaka isn't getting more than 25m a year. More than likely he gets around 22-23m a year without the posting fee, a 7 year/181m contract (including 20m posting fee) which is 25 AAV. I think they can work some restructures if they want to shed 500k'ish. It will come down to the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Mariners & the Cubs.

Yankees aren't under the CBT yet, even after the 25 million they save not paying A-Rod. Paying Tanaka and being under the CBT is not possible for them.

i admit some surprise at not seeing SEA on the list.. getting him is the only way all the other moves they made make any sense unless they are planning wholesale trades.

Unless they already have something on the table considering their ties to Japan...

Im on record as saying i think he ends up in Sea... ill stand by it till he signs i guess but the situation is evolving for sure.

Are you sure about that?

I did some more digging to be sure, as I was basing this off of something I read this morning. They are actually under it currently ($151 million), so my bad there. But they have several players under arbitration and if they pay Tanaka anywhere close to what people think he will receive, it's unlikely they will stay under it.

2 things to keep in mind:

The Angels have #18 open, something the Yankees won't be able to offer.

Tanaka's wife is an actress.  I think this will come down to the Angels and Dodgers.

Cool. Arte can bring in Chuck Finley to advise Tanaka on how to make that work.
