whenever these talks come up, hamilton, ontario is always one of the cities mentioned. maybe it's their time to push hard for a team. the fans in florida, outside of that whole rat thing several years ago, just don't support their team, and now the league really needs to step in and do something.

Funny thing though is, during the start of the franchise, didn't the Panthers get huge crowds?  I remember the rat throwing stuff whenever they scored a goal or something.

Actually looking at this, their attendance has been pretty steady.

I heard their Tickets are cheap & maybe they give free tickets to the players family/friends to fill the seats up.

Anyone surprised they won the #1 overall pick? The NHL once again didnt give it to the worst overall record, seems like its rigged so the Worst team never gets it.

That & Bettman is trying to save the Florida Panthers by handing them the #1 pick & hoping they start to win before serious relocation talks happen.

Ground was broken this week on a new arena here, 20,000 seats, to be opened in 2016. The NHL is known to be interested in placing a team in Las Vegas. Unlike so many other plans in the past which were nothing more than paper proposals, shovels are already in the ground for this one. Given the number of teams struggling in their current markets, I doubt that it will be an expansion team that winds up here.

My hope is that once people see that the universe won't cave in on itself once the NHL and NBA move in here, MLB will be next.

Where is it located in Vegas?  Is this going to be UNLV Basketball's stadium?  Or is it part of a casino like I think a few were rumored to be part of.

UNLV won't be involved in it. This is being built by private investors, no public money. The arena won't be directly affiliated with a hotel (thank God for that - we have enough of those), and the end goal is to put both an NBA and NHL team in the building as tenants. It is being built between New York-New York and the Monte Carlo on the Strip.

We have already seen what happens when facilities at UNLV are used. As soon as the university has a falling out with a tenant, they refuse to discuss another arrangement. That is how we lost the Las Vegas Thunder of the IHL in the late 1990s.

Here is an article on what is being built. The mayor is still hell bent on building an arena downtown in the Fremont Street area.

Man, between NY and Monte Carlo.  That will make Doggie stadium parking look like a speedway before and after a game.  Strip is already one tourist/drunk gridlock parking lot already.  It's getting to the point that Koval and Paradise are just as bad in traffic.

Parking is my main concern as well, especially with a Friday or Saturday night game, when the big crowds drive in from California and Arizona for the weekend. I am sure that some thought has been given to this, but I haven't heard what the plan is. I was hoping for something other than a Strip location, but I suppose that they have to consider walk-up sales to tourists.
